Torn

As I sit here and watch the preseason game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Chicago Bears, I am torn.  I know...I know, its just preseason so it really doesn't matter. BUT!  For the past 20+ years I have been a Bears fan starting when I lived in Washington DC and then for 13 of the past 17 years actually living in Chicago.  I have loved the Bears when they were great and when they were terrible.

As a boy growing up, I lived in MO and KS for 17 of my first 22 years...and a Chiefs fan I was.  And I loved them when they great and when they were terrible.  And for most of those years...they were terrible.

Now having moved back to KC, I want to be a hometown boy.  I want to be a Royals fan (not easy).  I want to be a Chiefs fan (not quite as hard) and I want to be a Kings fan (thats right they moved to Sacramento a bajillion years ago).  And for the most part I am becoming such again.  But when the Bears play the Chiefs.  Its just too difficult.  Well I guess I won't have to worry about it until the Super Bowl (yeah right).

Race Day

Today Janet, Patrick, Bailie, and Gretchen lined up and ran a 5K race in Olathe, KS.  The weather was a bit chilly, but these bold runners toughed it out.

The more adventurous and much better trained Restore folks ran the 1/2 marathon (13.1 miles).  I am so impressed and proud of Josh, Tommy, Brooke and Nancy (on the dl).  Watching them train and run this race was inspiring.  I am pretty sure I don't ever want to run 13 miles, but I am motivated to get back to a regular workout schedule.   

It was so cool to have Scott and Sandy Patton in town for the race.  Sandy used the 1/2 marathon as a tune up for the Boston Marathon which she qualified for last year.  She finished the race in the top 10 of all women right at 100 minutes or so (just under 8 minute miles).
