Coaching - Influence and Impact

Over the past few months we have witnessed some pretty cool God Things at Restore.  Conversions, baptisms and small group multiplication just to name a few.  The Jesus Mission in the Northland of KC seems to be gaining some momentum.

• Helping people find their way back to God   
• Mobilizing Christ Followers to change the world
• Reproducing leaders, artists, and churches.

We have witnessed numerous individuals step through a formal apprenticeship process and become leaders.  However, with that blessing has come a challenge.  How do we adequately care and continue to disciple those leaders who are the front line pastors of the local church?  The answer....COACHING.

Over the past six months six people have stepped into a coaching role.   Each of those coaches have "naturally" become coaches by training and releasing at least one leader.  But not enough.  We have been focused and intentional about reproducing leaders but not as focused on developing coaches.

Today at our staff meeting we talked about who would become our next generation of coaches at Restore.  Three key values became apparent as we debated amongst ourselves.

• Spiritual Maturity
• Reproducing Capacity/Experience
• Champion of Restore Culture

We came up with a list of highly capable people that have demonstrated each of these since the launch of Restore.  We then made a commitment to investing more intentionally in these key leaders to help them take the next step and expand their influence and impact. 

I can't wait to see how this conversation today becomes a catalyst to a whole new level of ownership.

Baptisms and More

On Sunday at Restore, ten people took their faith public and were baptized.  I continue to be amazed that God gives us a front row seat to watch Him change eternities.  A wife baptized her husband, a father and mother baptized three of their kids, and a junior high small group leader baptized one of her group members with the entire small group in the pool.  Here is the testimony of Derek, who was baptized by his wife and father in law.

 

" I am choosing to be baptized today as I feel that God has been calling me to join him on an incredible journey.  My journey began a few years ago when I had all but given up on finding God.  Things were just never adding up and I was out of control.  A teammate of mine suggested to me trying out a college bible study.  I thought it was a ridiculous idea but went anyway.  I didn’t feel at the time that I had gotten anything from that experience but I was wrong.  I spent a couple of hours afterward talking with the friend that took me there.  In that conversation I found that I was really missing something.  I started to attend a church on a pretty inconsistent basis but found I was getting comfortable there.  About 6 months later I met Kali (my wife) and she really opened me up to Jesus.  Her family helped me to realize that Jesus is the way.  I watch how they have lived and how they continue to follow the path that the Lord leads them on, doing the work that he has asked them to do.  To see someone so passionate about life and living it through Jesus has sparked something in me.  Kali and I found Restore and with this home I feel that I can worship the lord instead of just going to Church.  I hope that today with the help of Christ, I will reborn as a new man and will follow God as only he can lead me."

Haiti Church Construction - Moving Fast

In November, Restore Community Church took up a special one day offering to help start a church in Cavaillon Haiti.  We took a journey of prayer, faith, and sacrifice and God completely surprised us when the offering totalled $90,000.  That was enough money to buy the land, build the church and also 3 children's homes for 120 orphan children.  Contruction is well underway on both the church and the homes.  Here are some photo updates.

Kids should be moving in within the next 90 days.  Our first Restore trip to Cavaillon is scheduled for April.

Celebrate You - Then and Now

On Sunday at Restore, we unveiled a new song written by Tommy Bowman for our One Year Celebration.  During the song we ran a video of Restore attenders whose lives had been changed by Jesus....Then and Now.  It was a powerful moment with a great new song...enjoy.

RESTORE Celebrates One Year

Sunday was an incredible day at Restore Community Church.  Everyone brought their "A" game from the hospitality (300 cupcakes), to the arts team, to the three individuals who were interviewed, to everyone who attended.  And God surprised us again.   In total 622 people showed up for the celebration.  That is 200 more people than attended at our launch in March 2008.  I can't wait to see where God takes us in the next year.

One Year of God Things

On Sunday Restore Community Church turned one year old.  What an amazing year it has been watching God do incredible things in and thru ordinary people. 

We are poised for a great one year celebration on March 15th.  We are inviting everyone we can from near and far to join us for this celebration.

I Found God...at the corner of First and Amistad

Those are the lead lyrics to The Fray's song "You Found Me".  That song was the moment this weekend as we talked about Tough Times...Find GOD.  The story of Elijah was the foundation for how we can make it through tough times. From the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, if tough times have a purpose….the purpose is to FIND GOD. When we ask ourselves, “What’s the meaning of all this??”  I think at the core of what seems to be senseless or self inflicted tough times is that we find God. CS Lewis says it this way, “pain is God’s megaphone to rouse a deaf world.

Generous - Going Glocal

Sunday at Restore we concluded our series, Chasing the Almighty and we looked at what it means to be generous.  This has been a great series that has expanded our view of money and resources and how we can move from consumed, to free, to generous.  We asked each Restore attender to help us with our local and global intitiaves.  Locally we are dreaming and praying that as a new church plant we could become self supporting this year (a year ahead of schedule).  People responded very postitively and we are well on our way.  This will put us in a much better financial position to reproduce.

Also, we have developed a partnership with C3 Missions.  As a result, last November we took up a special offering to help start a church in Cavaillon Haiti.  On that day we collected $65,000 and had a matching gift of $25,000 for a $90,000 total to help start a church, build a facility and build two children's home on piece of property in Cavaillon.  Since that time another family at Restore decided to fund the third children's home.  So by this summer there will be 120 orphans living in the childrens' homes at Cavaillon. 

It takes $40/month/child for clothing, food, care, education, medical support...basically all living expenses.  We want to have each one of those kids sponsored by a family or individual at Restore.  On Sunday we made our first ask and received a strong response and 50 kids were sponsored on that day.  I am so looking forward to having all 120 sponsored by this summer.  We were able to show the following powerful testimony of Mike and Beth Fox, who started C3.

Chasing the Almighty

This past Sunday Restore kicked off our new series, Chasing the Almighty.  We are looking at how to respond to our current economic crisis with Biblical truths that are timeless and transformational.  Sunday we explored three myths about money.

• Money will make me happy
• Money will make me secure
• My money is my money
