One of Restore's awesome launch team members, Jacob Burrows, sent me this note on a repay moment...enjoy.
So I'm at Wal-Mart, right? I'm standing in one of the 20 items or less lines with three customers in front of me. Suddenly, I was reminded that I had a Repay card in my wallet, and thought, "I could pay for someone's "tab"... what a great way to start spreading His kindness!"
Now, that's how it was in my head, but actually working up the courage to do it, for me, was a struggle. Just then, two guys came up to wait in line behind me and they had some Red Bull and pens. When I got up to the register, I went for it and asked them if that's all they were getting, then offered to pay for it. They responded in sheer hatred, with their eyes blistering like the sun as one of their fists flung toward...haha, just kidding, who wouldn't let someone pay for their stuff? They actually looked shocked, so I did it, then gave them the repay card, and wished them a Merry Christmas.
It didn't quite end there. You know how sometimes you're in an awkward moment where you say bye to someone then end up walking with them to where both your cars are parked? Yeah, you know what I mean:) Anyway, that happened and halfway along one of the guys introduced himself to me and asked how long I've been doing this. I told him we just got a bunch of the cards and are starting to spread 'em out. Then I encouraged him to pass it on, to which he responded "I will, definitely."
It sure was awkward at first, but once I did it I was so glad I didn't pass up the opportunity to show God's kindness.
