October Servefest - Neighborhood Block Party

Saturday was a remarkable day.   Restore  was invited to partner with Southeast Elementary School, KCPD, and the Northwoods Neighborhood Association.  The party kicked off at 11am and kids started wandering over from the nearby homes.  Over the next 2+ hours over 60 Restore volunteers alongside SE Elementary staff and Kansas City's finest served food, games, and activities to over 100 kids and their families.  The energy was incredible and watching new relationships develop was refreshing.  I am so proud of Sue Ann Boyd and Patrick O'Connell who played a significant leadership role in making this happen.

Count Me In

Yesterday we kicked off our new series at Restore called "The Story of Everything."  We explored Elohim and how God is absolutely relational to the core.

We challenged everyone at Restore to go on a 30 day Bible Reading plan.  Over 160 people committed to daily reading their Bible.  We also gave away 75 3C journals to people who wanted to spend time journaling their experience.

I believe that this experience will change us individually and as a church.

New Series - The Story of Everything

This Sunday we begin a brand new series at Restore.  I believe this series will be one those marker events in the life of this church and for everyone who is a part of this family. 

During these next six weeks we will look at what the Bible says about God, Sin, Jesus, Holy Spirit, the Church, and Eternity.  If we open ourselves up to it, God will change us as a church and as individuals.

22 Years Ago Today

On October 11, 1986 in a small church in Paola, KS, I said "I do" to the most beautiful woman in the world.  So much has changed in these past 22 years. Three wonderful kids, six moves, and three careers later I am still married to the most beautiful woman in the world.

I can't imagine my life without Janet.  I thank God for her continuously.

Happy Anniversary Janet.  I love you more now than ever.

Restore in the Christian Standard

 An article about Restore will be featured in this week's Christian Standard, a publication of the Independent Christian Churches/Churches of Christ.  The catalyst for planting a church in Kansas City was born out of the North American Christian Convention which is an annual gathering of Christian Churches.

We are so grateful for all the support and encouragement we have receieved from around the country.

Taste of Small Groups - OFF THE HOOK

Sunday at Restore we had our second Taste of Small Groups and it was completely over the top.  This has become more of an extravaganza than an event.  Each of our 15 adult small group put out displays with some of their best treats.

Of course the competition heated up a bit.  What began as just some tables with treats and information has grown to full fledged decoration and explosion of food. 

Our group had homemade cinnamon rolls and photos of all each of our group members "then" and we asked folks to guess who they were now.  Other groups brought in bales of straw to decorate with a fall theme, and play houses to decorate with a home theme, and an entire mexican dinner theme.  And then the grillers took over with a fire pit outside making S'mores, a grill for hamburgers and then to top it off one group brought a grill made from the rear end of VW Bug.

The best part of the entire day was that somewhere between 25 and 40 people made connections to join a small group.  We will see in the coming weeks the number that actually get grouped, but great conversations were happening all over the place.

Church Planting in Vegas

 My good friend, Vince Antonucci, is planting a church on the Vegas strip.  If there is anyone who can partner with God to plant a life giving church in one of the darkest places, its Vince.  He planted Forefront Church in Virgina Beach 9 years ago and it has changed the lives and eternities of hundreds of marginalized people far from God.  Vince also wrote the book, "I became a Christian and all I got was this lousy tshirt."  A must read for people serious about evangelism.

I just finished reading the strategic plan and brochure for The Vegas Project, and I was inspired.  I am so excited for Vince and his team and can't wait to see what God does thru them.  I am encouraging everyone I can to get on board and support this new church.  If you read this, you should check them out.
